The Nérac ponds
The Nérac ponds, located in Altenach and Saint-Ulrich in the Sundgau region, are a group of five ponds dating back to the 1990th century. Formerly exploited, they evolved into a more natural environment after their acquisition by the Haut-Rhin General Council in the XNUMXs.
Classified Natura 2000 and integrated into the network of Sensitive natural areas (ENS) of Alsace, this site is home to more than 100 species of birds, including some rare ones such as the Penduline Tit, the Osprey and the Common Crane.
An observatory made of untreated wood, installed on a dike between two ponds, allows you to admire the biodiversity and observe up to 140 species of birds.
A guidebook available at the Maison de la Nature du Sundgau offers a 2-2 hour walk to explore this site.
