Torchlight New Year's Eve around the Castle

What is a torchlit New Year's Eve celebration?

An iconic event in the Sundgau region, organized every December 31st for almost 20 years. A torchlit night walk leads to the ruins of Ferrette Castle to celebrate the New Year in a convivial atmosphere.

What is the route?

Around 3 km, 1 hour walk, with 150 m of positive altitude difference on forest paths. Suitable footwear and a headlamp are recommended.

Can we go directly up to the castle?

Yes. From the media library: 10–15 mins uphill. Recommended arrival time between 22:30 p.m. and 23 p.m..

What time does the march start?

From 22hFrom the designated parking area, the path is marked all the way to the castle.

Are torches provided?

Yes, free of charge (1 torch for 2 people). A donation box is available for those wishing to contribute to the organizing associations.

Is the glass of sparkling wine offered?

Yes, at midnight, within the castle grounds.

Is there a refreshment stand?

Yes: drinks are available for purchase, including mulled wine, and sales of New Year's pretzelsNo food service on site.

Payment is accepted in cash only.

Is the event family-friendly?

Yes, the audience is intergenerational. Take into account the nighttime walking and the elevation changes.
